Recognized now as an important Chicago artist, Vincent Mendoza graduated from Bowen in 1968. In 1975 he painted a large wall mural that gives us pride in our school and community. The center of the mural shows a steel mill blast furnace fiery colors. South Chicago workers and educators make a human story for the mural. The Calumet River brings heavy cargo ships into the steel mill ports.
